Q. Why do I have to provide my personal identification and sign the affidavit?

A. You must provide the identification and sign the affidavit according to House Bill 06S-1023, a new law in Colorado that affects the Denver Water rebate program.

Q. Does this new law apply to everyone?

A. No. The law applies to any individual person who is 18 years old or older who applies for non-emergency public benefits.

Q. What if I submit a rebate application without the identification and affidavit?

A. Your application will be denied.

Q. What if I purchased this device before August 1, 2006?

A. If you applied for the rebate after August 1, 2006, then the new law applies and you will have to provide identification and sign the affidavit, regardless of when you purchased the device.

Q. If I received rebates from Denver Water prior to August 1, 2006, are those affected by the new law?

A. No.

Q. Why will you accept drivers' licenses from only 34 states and the District of Columbia?

A. The Colorado Department of Revenue has deemed only the drivers' licenses of those states and the District of Columbia eligible. The 34 states are Colorado, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Q. Can I submit a photocopy of my U.S. passport as identification?

A. Yes, as long as it is not a “limited” passport, issued for less than five years.

Q. Does my affidavit have to be notarized?

A. No.

A. No. At this time, Denver Water will accept the identification and affidavit by mail only.

A. Your identification and affidavit will not be disclosed, because rebate information is not a public record under Colorado law.
