Change in 2006 Rebate Requirements

House Bill 06S-1023, which Governor Bill Owens signed into law on July 31, 2006, restricts who may receive public benefits in the State of Colorado.

This law requires a change in the procedure for Denver Water rebate applications.

Under the new law, anyone 18 years of age or older must prove lawful presence in the United States in order to receive non-emergency public benefits. This applies to the Denver Water rebate. Although the new law went into effect on August 1, 2006, it applies to rebate applications even if the device was purchased prior to that date.

In order to prove lawful presence in the United States, you must produce a form of identification accepted by the Colorado Department of Revenue. The accepted forms are listed at the Department of Revenue’s Web site. The Department of Revenue may also be reached at (303) 866-3091.

In addition, you must sign an affidavit stating either: (1) you are a United States citizen;
