From mid-October 2011 through May 2012, Denver Water and its contractor T. Lowell Construction will be installing joint seals in one of its major transmission pipelines. The 60-inch pipeline, which was installed in 1930, runs from Bowles Avenue and Lowell Boulevard to Denver Water’s Capitol Hill facility at 9th Avenue and Josephine Street.
The joints in the pipeline have become prone to leaks as they age so Denver Water is installing seals from the inside to prevent future problems. Installing seals from the inside dramatically reduces the cost and disruption versus replacing the pipeline.
In order to install the seals, T. Lowell Construction will be excavating and installing access manholes and making modifications at various points along the length of the pipeline. The access points will allow air, personnel and materials to enter the pipeline at strategic points. Work at each of the sites is expected to take a few days. Traffic and parking will be impacted at each site.
