Traffic Advisory and Update: University Boulevard and Buchtel Boulevard

Dec. 31, 2011 - Earlier this afternoon, Denver Water responded to the intersection of University Boulevard and Buchtel Boulevard to shut off water from a broken 36-inch conduit at Denver Water’s Einfeldt Pump Station just east of that intersection.

The water to the broken pipe has been shut off, but the water may take a few hours to drain. City crews are standing by to clean the street after the water drains. The intersection of University and Buchtel remains closed except for southbound University to westbound Buchtel. Traffic detours are in place. After that, the intersection will reopen.

It took longer than usual for the crews to isolate the leak because of the number of conduits and water mains converging at the pump station, and the number of valves involved in the shutout.

Water pressure should be back to normal around most of the system. If customers experience discolored water, they are advised to run all faucets on cold water for several minutes until the water clears.
