June 20, 2012 - Beginning Thursday, June 21, Denver Water will begin a water main replacement project on 17th Avenue from Milwaukee Street to Steele Street. The crew will work one block at a time to install 700 feet of eight-inch diameter water main to improve water service in the area and upgrade aging infrastructure. This new water main replaces pipe installed in 1919.
Denver Water will be working on this project Mondays through Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to minimize impacts to rush hour traffic. One lane of eastbound 17th Avenue will be open during these working hours. Westbound traffic should not be affected by the project.
Water service to the surrounding homes and businesses should not be affected by the work, except for one building, at the beginning and end of the project. Customers whose water service will be affected will be notified in advance of the work.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-July. Residents and visitors to the area will be able to park on 17th Avenue overnight and on the weekends.
