    Denver Water Manager Hamlet “Chips” Barry today announced his plans to retire later this spring.

  • Dec. 21, 2009 Cheesman Reservoir Closed to Visitors in 2010

    Cheesman Reservoir will be closed to visitors beginning Jan. 1, 2010, as Denver Water makes essential upgrades to the dam, which was built in 1905. The reservoir is scheduled to reopen May 1, 2011. Upper and lower Gill Trail will remain open to hikers who want to access Cheesman Canyon throughout the closure period.

  • Dec. 11, 2009 Health Organizations Launch Take-Back Program for Unwanted Medicines

    The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and a consortium of concerned organizations, including Denver Water, have launched a pilot program for people to dispose of unwanted medication. One of its main goals is to alleviate the flushing of unused pharmaceuticals, which can end up in water supplies.

  • Dec. 09, 2009 Bob Taylor Memorial Ice Fishing Contest

    Antero Reservoir event returns after seven-year hiatus. Bob is back! Denver Water’s Bob Taylor Memorial Ice Fishing Contest will be Jan. 2, 2010, at Antero Reservoir. The event is sponsored by Denver Water, the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Coalition for the Upper South Platte.

  • Nov. 10, 2009 Xcel Energy work in Waterton Canyon continues

    Xcel Energy continues its work to install a replacement underground power line in Waterton Canyon. The power line is necessary to continue operating Strontia Springs Dam. The work occurs Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no work on weekends. Crews will not be working Nov. 26 and 27.

  • Nov. 06, 2009 Public Comment Sought on Moffat Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Denver Water’s Moffat Collection System Project, which proposes to enlarge Gross Reservoir north of Boulder.

    In response to recent claims that Denver Water 20 years ago dumped hazardous materials and cement-asbestos pipe near 12th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

    Due to inclement weather, Denver Water has declared a snow day for nonessential personnel. Denver Water will operate with essential personnel only, and some services may be delayed or unavailable. Essential personnel should report to work as scheduled.
