Denver Water Board considers rates adjustment for 2012Denver Water’s Board is considering adjusting its rates for 2012 to provide further funding for the utility’s capital projects, which include upgrades to aging infrastructure. The increase is about half of what the Board had anticipated last year. In 2011, Denver Water reprioritized projects that can be delayed a few years and implemented additional efficiency measures throughout the organization. On Sept. 28 at 9 a.m., the Denver Water Board will vote on the rates proposal at its study session. Public comments will be accepted prior to the vote. Customers also can email or write letters (Denver Water Board, 1600 West 12th Ave., Denver, CO 80204) with comments on rates to the Denver Water Board. |

Pump station renamed to honor late water leaderIn honor of Chips Barry’s countless accomplishments and lasting impact on both the Denver community and the state of Colorado, Denver Water’s Montclair Pump Station was recently renamed the Hamlet J. “Chips” Barry III Facility. The newly renamed pump station is an integral part of the recycled water system put into service during Barry’s tenure as manager of Denver Water. Barry was manager of Denver Water for 19 years, the utility’s longest-serving manager. He died in a tragic accident on his farm in Hawaii on May 2, 2010. |
